Kristin Nelson, M.Ed - Owner/Teacher
Kristin began her educational career in the mid 1990s working with students at the high school level. She was a coach and teacher. During her teaching career, she found that her most rewarding experiences were when she took the time to work one on one with students who struggled with academics or social skills. Kristin went on to complete her administrative credentials through the Danforth Educational Leadership Program at the University of Washington. She worked in administration for fourteen years before leaving the public education system to follow her desire to help kids in a different way. Kristin’s passion working with struggling students only intensified as the years went on, leaving Kristin frustrated by the lack of support for students who had gaps in their basic skills. She used her years of public school experience to dream of a place where students could access the skills needed to create and reach their full potential and dream about a brighter future. Her dream solidified into KNECT Kids, which is a place designed to connect kids to better learning.
Kristin has first hand experience of how hard it can be when your child doesn’t catch on like everyone else. She has been the parent who wants to help their child yet is told they are “Just fine and will catch up,” or doesn’t know where to get additional help (and she was in the education system). She spent countless hours researching counselors, doctors, reading programs, and medicines, along with reading numerous “How to fix your child” books. She remembers the many days of crying herself to sleep over the concern and stress of helping her child learn. She nods her head when other families talk about how they feel like everyone is judging them by their child’s behavior or skills. She knows the pain. Her goal is to try and help other families find the support they need so that they do not have to parent in pain.
